DDDD: Mercenary Menagerie & The Princes of the Apocalypse

Session 0

A dwarf cleric of Dumathoin hired the reputable raider, Cloak, to retrieve a tome for him.  After finding it it in a tomb close-by Yartar, Cloack decided it would better suit him to sell it off to the highest bidder.  He peddled the book at the Inn of the Glowing Gem.  This caught the eye of Alaren who had heard of this book, The Life and Times of Unoth Axeriver.  It was rumored to contain hints of a long-forgotten dwarven kingdom in the Dessarin Valley.  Linx was also sent to the area to look into the recent escalation of disturbances, and was informed by her contacts in Yartar that this tome might help in uncovering the mystery.

After convincing Linx to open the tome, and Alaren to translate it, the three set off to the Red Larch, the closest town to investigate the Sumber Hills.

Session 1: The Road to Red Larch

The Mercenary Menagerie heads to Red Larch to explore the ancient dwarven city of Tyar-Besil beneath the Sumber Hills.  They took to the road due to delays on the Dessarin River.  A caravan agreed to bring them along for their journey to Red Larch.  In the Talking Troll (tavern) of Triboar, they met the survivors of a caravan raided by hippogriff riders between Bargewright Inn and Red Larch.  Additionally, they heard stories of weird weather and disappearances, including Gervor and his companions, and two Waterdhevian merchants: Kharloss and Jarlee.  They were joined by a group of men with half a dozen horses on their way to Helvenblade, home of the Silmerhelves, which is guarded by a "family ghost". After passing a group of dwarven miners, they were ambushed by a group of raiders in the middle of the night.  One of the raiders managed to escape, while one was subjected to a most intense fresh test by Linx and crushing volleys from Aralen and Gimble.

Session 2: Whose Job is it Anyway?

6-8 Ches (3), Claw of Sunsets; 1491 DR, Year of the Scarlet Witch

The group awakens in Red Larch at the Swinging Sword.  The proprietor, Kaylessa Irkell, told the group of disturbances near town caused by fell magic.  She believes these are related to a dark presence at Lance Rock, offering a reward for any who investigate it.  They then went to Mellikho Stoneworks and, masquerading as potential buyers, spoke with Albaeri Mellikho.  Finally, Constable Harbuk thanked the group for checking on Lance Rock and also mentioned a group of bandits south-east of town.

The group set out for Lance Rock a narrow, twenty-five foot menhir of bare, gray rock that juts eastward at a sixty-degree angle.  A nearby trail lead to a cave in which several undead beings dwell.  The group has spent the last 2 days clearing out the undead menace.

Session 3: The Lord of Lance Rock

9-10 Ches (3), Claw of Sunsets; 1491 DR, Year of the Scarlet Witch

The party finished cleansing the self-stylized Lord of Lance Rock, and returned to Red Larch for their reward.  Afterwards, they left to clear out a small bandit encampment, making a bear friend in the meantime.  As they returned to Red Larch, there was a large commotion.  A massive sinkhole opened up in the road.  A number of the town elders were ushering people away from the hole, while others were working to help a number of people who had fallen down the hole.  The party began investigating leads as to why the elders were so concerned with the cave-in, calling Albaeri Mallhiko into suspicion, though she was nowhere to be found at her quarry office.  Stannor, a halfling, offered the group some information of where they might be able to find the secret meeting place of the elders.

Session 4: The Delvers

The group made their way through the Tomb of the Delvers, and confronted Larrakh.

Session 5: Feathergale Spire

11-12 Ches (3), Claw of Sunsets; 1491 DR, Year of the Scarlet Witch

Questions in town and the Mirabar trade bars on Larrakh led the group to several cairns in the hills nearby.  The bodies there were varied.

The Knights of the Feathergale Society were welcoming of the group.  They helped to kill a Manticore the Society had been hunting.

The leader asked them to check out the Sacred Stone Monastery.  They were denied entry, and destroyed two gargoyles while looking for a way in.
